The number of smokers has drastically increased over the past few years. People are well-aware of the ill effects of smoking and its threats to our lives. Still, it has become a culture to smoke cigarettes for fun, enjoyment, or at times, to deal with anxieties.

Those who smoke even feel comfortable smoking in public areas despite the fact that it may be causing inconvenience to those who do not smoke. Therefore, it is important to ban smoking in public areas.

Why Should Smoking In Public Areas Be Banned?

Smoking cigarettes is not illegal in most parts of the world. It is also a matter of personal choice if some wish to smoke even after knowing about its impact on our health.

However, the situation takes a bad turn when someone who does not wish to smoke has to go through a situation where he/she experiences discomfort caused by those who are smoking in public. Therefore, smoking in public areas should be banned due to following reasons:

  • It has been discussed in several scientific studies that secondhand or passive smoking has equal chances of triggering bronchitis and asthmatic issues as there are for smokers. Long exposure of non-smokers to such secondhand smoking can also cause them deadly respiratory diseases.

  • For people with already existing respiratory diseases, public smoking can be fatal. They can get exposed to passive smoking and get their respiratory problems triggered.

  • Many physically vulnerable groups of people like young children, senior citizens, and pregnant women can also fall into the trap of passive smoking which has adverse effects on their health.

  • Apart from serious health threats, secondhand smoking can be very annoying for those who do not smoke. It can cause major discomfort, irritation, and inconvenience to them because of someone else.

Therefore, considering the above-mentioned arguments, smoking in public places should be banned.
