You’re trapped on a desert island. What three things did you bring with you and why?

Linked Table of Contents

So, you’re trapped on a desert island. For the time being, there is no way out — no lifeboats, lifeguards or rescue ships in sight. Just the azure sand between your toes, and the deep blue sea as far as the eye can see. If you had a choice, what are the three things that you would bring with you in such a situation? While you take a moment to think about it, here are the three things that I would want on hand, if I were trapped on a desert island.

Superfoods And Drinking Water

Of course, it comes as no surprise that food and water are probably the most important necessities to survive on a desert island until you find help. I would stock up on bottles of drinking water (since I can’t drink seawater) and, not just any food but, superfoods loaded with nutrients that will keep me strong and healthy, and survive for a long time. The superfoods in question would include veggies like kale and fruits like berries, kiwis and cantaloupe which are rich in vitamins, as well as beans that are easy to store and grow. I would also stock up on quinoa for protein and seaweed for minerals and seasoning. This collection of superfoods would maintain my stamina for a long time, in case I don’t find help any time soon.

A Magnifying Glass

This may seem like an odd choice, but the amazing power of the lens of the magnifying glass to converge the sun’s rays would make for a quick and easy method to start a fire. All you would need to do is gather some wood, pile it up and focus the sun beam. No need to spend fruitless hours rubbing sticks together. The fire will be necessary to cook food, keep warm at night, and could possibly be useful for an S.O.S. call in case a ship or rescue boat passes by.

A Tent And Some Blankets

Last but not least, the other thing that is necessary to stay alive and healthy is of course sleep. Getting sleep on a desert island exposed to strange insects and the cold of the night would certainly be a challenge. Having a cozy tent along with some blankets would ensure the bugs and possibly dangerous animals are kept away, and I have a warm place to crash at the end of a hard day.
