Ownership Matters: Possessive Pronouns vs Determiners for Grade 6

This Grade 6 worksheet helps students clearly understand the difference between possessive pronouns (mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs) and possessive determiners (my, your, his, her, our, their). Through engaging and structured exercises, learners develop the ability to use the correct possessive form in different sentence contexts.

With a mix of true/false, multiple choice questions, fill in the blanks, error correction, and paragraph-based activities, this worksheet builds strong grammar foundations. Students learn when to use a possessive word independently and when it must be followed by a noun.

Why Possessive Pronouns vs Determiners Matter in Grammar?

Understanding possessive forms is essential for Grade 6 learners because:

    Exercise 5 – Paragraph Writing
During a weekend art workshop, Kabir and Zoya joined a group of young painters. They brought colours and brushes, while the instructor arranged materials for everyone. When the session began, Kabir and Zoya worked on their canvas with great focus.

Kabir admired a nearby painting and said that the style was similar to his. Zoya pointed to another painting and said that the idea was hers because she had created it earlier.

The instructor displayed a few artworks and asked, “Are these paintings yours, or do they belong to someone else?” The students observed carefully.

Kabir said, “This one is mine because I remember painting it.” Zoya replied, “That one is not mine; it belongs to Rohan.”

The instructor then compared the paintings and said, “The improvement is clearly theirs.” In the end, Kabir and Zoya felt proud of their progress, and the instructor appreciated their effort.

Help your child confidently express ownership and avoid common grammar mistakes with focused possessive practice.
